Anyone can give a clear explanation to new users like me what those languages (VEX, Hscript, expression, python) are used for?
Technical Discussion » I don't quite understand how the "AttribFromVolumn"

edwardGot it! Thanks so much
A volume primitive does not have multiple attributes per voxel. So density is a separate volume primitive from temperature, for example.

edwardThank you for your reply!! But I still wonder, coz there's no parameter that specifys which attribute of the volume does it take. For example, what if there're more than on attribute that are stored on the volume, eg. density, temperature, pressure…
It uses the points from the first input as positions to sample into the volume primitives in the second input. It then puts the result into an attribute on the points (of the first input). The tuple/components size of the attribute should match the volumes that you set in the Volume parameter. Since Houdini Volume primitives are always scalar fields, then you should specify 1 volume for each component of your attribute.

Hi, I'm new to houdini. I don't understand how “AttribFromVolumn” work. Which attribute of the volumn does it take?

I wanna copy stuff on each edge of an poly curve and align to the normal of the edge instead of onto each point. Is there any way I can do that? It seems to me that houdini doesn't keep edge info as attribute. forgive me that I'm a newbe LOL

Is there a way in houdini that can draw a structure repeatedly besides copy node?
I have a node that can make a structure if given four points. I wanna make a scene by running this node repeatedly like a for loop? But each loop pick a different group of points. Really appreciate your help!!

Technical Discussion » question about addpointtogroup node in vop sop

Joker386Thank you for your reply! I do hope to figure out how to work properly with vop sop, coz I don't only do this stuff. It's just a test. There're more to go afterward based on similar principle
Are you serious to solve that just inside VOP ? because you can simply solve that just with adding a Sort SOP after your VOPSOP to sort point's number By X :?

I attempt to line-up point with a sequence indicated by the red line. I use a for loop in a vop sop, and I make the for loop pick points with the sequence I want. But it seems that when I add point to group it rearrange the sequence by point number which result in a the black line. How can I make it to be the red line. The file is below:
